Hello everybody! We have been in Malawi for almost a week now and we can't believe how quickly the time has gone.
It is sunny at last! (Big lucy's sun dance actually worked) We went to a nearby school with the book bus today. There were only supposed to be older children at the school however some very young looking children also turned up. Luckily we had spent hours last night drawing hundreds of templates making sure there was something for everyone. Whilst in the headmaster's office we found Malawi's guidelines for teaching, "avoid teaching whilst drunk" and "teachers should be conscious" something that our leaders found very amusing...
After working at the school we returned and had BLT sandwiches for lunch!!! Which were a complete luxury ( some of us were beginning to forget what bacon tasted like) a complete shock to our routine was that we had NO craft to prepare :D we're not complaining but after you've drawn over 200 snakes a night it starts to get a little bit tedious.
We spent a lot of time down at the community centre this afternoon. Some of us played on the roundabout with the kids whilst others taught English to some of the older people. Rachel and Kate spent time teaching maths to some of the boys at the the centre.
This evening we dressed up in our Malawian skirts for Doc's dinner. Blessing read us a story that he had written whilst we waited for food to be served. One thing we have discovered today is that Doc is an amazing cook! His lasagne and apple crumble were the best food we have had all week :) (not that Helen can't cook she just knows when she's been beaten) we are being fed very well here.
Can't wait we're off of safari this weekend. But will write soon
All our love
The Impalas
