We are a group of Girl Guides, who are lucky enough to be departing for Africa next week!

We are going on a three week trip to Malawi, the heart of Africa, where we will be working with a charity called The Book Bus. The Books Bus aims at improving literacy rates and giving the children living there more opportunities and a better standard of education. 

We picked the story books ourselves and then put together a collection of craft activities for the African children to do, which link in with the books. We are getting very excited about doing our bit to help close up the development between our country and theirs and hopefully have lots of fun and laughs with the children at the same time!

Our group is made up of 12 girls and 4 leaders and we live all over the London and South East Region of England. We first met at the initiation weekend back in October 2012 and since then have met up at various weekends for trip planning and for time to get to know each other. We spent the months from October fundraising for our trip, through grants, quiz nights and cake sales etc. and now we are getting all our kit finalised  to fly off to Malawi next Friday. 

We are all so thankful for this incredible opportunity and would like to thank every single person who has contributed to this trip, whether it is through giving up their time for fundraising, general support or supplying craft materials for us to take out with us. We are so grateful to you all.

Us girls would also like to thank our four leaders for their time an effort in planning every aspect of this trip- there is no way we'd be going without you!
